Our Master Bathroom

Hi Everyone!

I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend with family and friends!  We'd had several wonderful events happen here since I last posted.

Our son showed up for a surprise visit!  We knew he was coming eventually but apparently he was intentionally vague and he rang the doorbell with no warning.  So, I'm a happy mom!

The next day, our daughter gave birth to our new grandson, Lucas James!  So I'm a happy Grandma!

So, we kept the Fourth simple for new mom and baby by grilling on the deck and swimming.

I've shared our master bedroom with you before but today, I thought I'd share our master bathroom.

Our master bedroom and bath are on the second floor of our house, overlooking the back yard and pool.  We've done a few cosmetic updates over the years in our bathroom but I'm actually hoping this is a 'before' photo.
We have plans to tear out the bathtub and surrounding platform and the vanity.  Then put in a new marble looking floor.

Then I've found a claw foot tub and double vanity that looks like French dresser that we'll put in here. It will really open up the space to get rid of this large platform.
We recently had new windows put in both of these rooms and we haven't bothered to put the blinds back up in the bathroom.  There's nothing behind our house but rolling hills so I don't worry too much about privacy.  Here's the link to our master bedroom that I shared last year.

We have a cathedral ceiling in our bathroom that is finished with what looks like a hardwood floor. I'm thinking I will white-wash it when we tear everything out. (Please excuse my arm sticking out into this photo - I could't get the shot any other way!) lol

From our bathroom, you walk between two sets of built in closets to get to a room that has the toilet and a double shower.
I have a collection of wicker chests and baskets (HomeGoods) on top of the closets where we store our off-season clothes.  We also have a large walk-in cedar closet off the hallway.  The toilet and shower room also have a high ceiling and a skylight that opens.  The shower is to the right.
The chandelier used to be above our dining room table.  I replaced it with this.

The stained glass was a gift from my mother in law.  We found it in a little shop in Virginia.

Hopefully we'll get some estimates soon on our tile job.  We've done tile work before but feel like our shower is over our skill level.

Have a great week!  My house is a little more chaotic (and messy) than usual with our son here but we're enjoying his visit so much!

.nancherrowAnd we are so blessed with our new grand son, Luke!  God is so good and we are celebrating this wonderful gift of family!

love and blessings~

  15. When you said you were hoping to take out the sunken tub and platform my 1st reaction was, "Can I have the tub?!" LOL I installed a sunken tub and built a platform around it years ago. The bathroom was only 4' wide but we made it look bigger with our creativity. We opened up the wall and added 2 sets of bifold doors where the platform was. So when you were soaking in the tub you could open them up and watch the tv in the bedroom! (MY idea. LOL) We added muslin fabric to the inside of the bifold doors, so it looked like curtains. The outside of the doors were mirrored, so the bedroom looked bigger. Underneath the platform, was a small bit of storage space, accessible from the bedroom. (I LOVE storage space! )

It was really cool. I LOVED that tub with the jets! Once a week I was soaking....I was either watching tv or had my candles burning. Unfortunately, I only got to enjoy that tub for a few months. I got pregnant and was not to be soaking in a hot tub. And then we sold the house. Boo hoo for me. That was in 2000, and I have wanted a sunken tub with a platform ever since.

My master bathroom is way too small for one now....and baths are very infrequent because I like to have my entire body IN the water when in a tub! LOL (These bathtubs are made for KIDS...not grown people! LOL)

  16. Thanks, Robin! I have really enjoyed this tub too and use it almost daily. What you don't see is that things are getting a little worn in here. I think probably everything is original to the house so it's all about 30 years old. We've done some cosmetic refinishing on the tile, tub, counter top and sinks and it's looking a little worn now too. So, time to get new. The platform takes up a lot of room and is really hard to keep clean, sitting right under the windows. I think I'll really like making the room a little more French and open. Come get the tub! You can have it!! :)
    love and blessings~
