Some Changes in the Entry

Happy Fall Y'all!

We're all very confused here in Michigan because September might be our warmest month all summer.  It's been gorgeous!  But the temperatures are getting cooler at night and I've seen a few trees starting to turn.

I've had this baker's rack on the deck all summer with my herb garden on it.  Here in the corner of our entry I've always had an antique phonograph.
When I went to find a picture, I realized I've never showed you guys this corner of the room. Fortunately I had a picture I had never edited because the phonograph isn't there anymore!

I've never felt good about having it here.  Too much traffic goes through this room and it was sitting right by an often-open patio door.

So I decided to put the baker's rack here and fill it with garden decor and my herb garden.
It's a perfect spot for my topiary.  The little sunflower picture was painted by our youngest son and is perfect for Fall.  I'm just in love with sunflowers lately!

It's also a great place to display some more Fall decor.  I love the 'garden look.'  And this is giving me that feel.
I am much more comfortable with this being here now and I don't have to fill my family room window with plants.
I keep changing the Fall decor all around the house.  To be honest, I've never decorated for Fall much until a couple of years ago.  Orange just didn't go well with the reds and yellows that I had on the main floor.
So I've had a lot of fun adding to my collection of stuff this year and deciding what I like.  I'll be back soon!

From "Farmhouse" to "French Country" Part Three

For those of you that have been following my blog, we are two steps closer to finishing our kitchen.

We got our new stainless gas range and we are loving it!
I ordered it online from Lowe's and really had to pay attention to details and people's reviews.  I chose this one because the sides have a lip that comes over the edge of the cabinet so things can't fall between the stove and the cabinet.

This one also has a 'dip' in the back that allows the gas line and electrical to fit in there.  Then the stove fits right up against the wall.

I was mentally ready to send it back and try again but my first choice worked perfectly!
I put my sweet cow back above the stove (he had been living with my other cows in the basement) and also added a print of cows to the wall.  My cows were in this area last year and became a real topic of conversation with my family so I thought they didn't like them.  They were all happy when I brought them back - lol!
We also got a new faucet.  Our old one was silver and I wanted one that matched the oiled bronze hardware and the other sink.
We've decided not to get a new sink right now.  We don't want to replace our counter tops and it would be pretty hard to replace the sink and have it fit perfectly.  Our current sink is in perfect condition and it's a nice sink. I would love to have a farm house sink and if we ever replace our counter tops, we'll get one then.
We finally got our schedule to match the "tile guy's" and my husband surprised me by asking him to give us an estimate on our kitchen floor as well as the master bathroom!  I've always thought our kitchen floor was weird/neat?  I like the wood inlay but wish it went both directions making a diamond pattern instead of just the one way.  We'll probably take a trip to the tile store this weekend and pick out tile for the master bathroom and the kitchen!  Yay!
We still need to put up our new back splash.  I've picked out 4" travertine tile that we're going to set on an angle.  It's such a small space and since it's completely open to the rest of the house, I'm going to keep it very simple.  If we get a new floor, I will so a similar tile also set on an angle.

I'll include more pictures of the kitchen soon when I do a Fall Tour.

Have a wonderful day!

Fall in the Family Room

No matter what your color scheme in your home, most of us like to add some warmth when the temperatures outside start to drop.  I do, too.

I have never loved fall colors in my house but this year I've modified them.  If I had to say I had a 'fall theme' it would be 'copper.'

I lightly sprayed all my faux fall foliage with a light layer of copper to tone down the reds and yellows.
And then I was much happier.

A mix of real and faux gourds and pumpkins fill a dough bowl on the coffee table.
I found this faux silk brown plaid fabric when I found the blue plaid for my living room.  I thought it was the perfect fabric to add some warmth to this room for fall.  I very rarely buy throw pillows.  I like to make my own so I can have as many as I want and use the fabric elsewhere to tie the room together.
I filled the vase on the sofa table with fall foliage, branches and eucalyptus.  A bust of a horse brings some of the brown to the table.
Remember the topiary  I made in the Spring?  It's still going strong.  I never transplanted it out of the plastic pot it came in and I set the whole thing in a copper pot for fall.

I'm enjoying the changes and I'll most likely keep the room like this until Thanksgiving is over.
I'll be back soon with our Fall kitchen and a complete Fall Home Tour.

We got our new stove (love it!) and all that's left to finish in the kitchen is the back splash. From Farmhouse to French Country Part Two

AND we're finally getting an estimate on our new bathroom tile today!  We've had to keep rescheduling because of being busy.  Our Master Bathroom

I hope you're having a wonderful day!

A Fall Centerpiece in the Dining Room

I hope you all had a great weekend!  We had some great house guests this weekend and I found and bought a fabulous French dresser!

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. We may use it for a vanity in our master bathroom or I may finally move our piano downstairs and put it there. Either way I was so happy to get it!  It was about an hour away from our house so we took our sweet grandchildren and went for a beautiful drive through Michigan's farm lands.  They had fun counting barns and silos.

It's always fun to add a centerpiece to your dining room table.  I wanted to tie my dining room fall colors to my living room since they're completely open to each other.

I used some more of the mercury glass pumpkins that I used in the living room, combining them with dried hydrangeas and some faux pumpkins and acorns.  My pumpkins were originally orange and I sprayed them with a layer of silver spray paint and then painted them lightly with my shutter paint (hand mixed) and SW Interesting Aqua.

My hydrangeas are dried Endless Summer and Strawberry Shortcake  The Strawberry Shortcake dried such a pretty shade of rose.

I also mixed in my mercury glass candle sticks from Ballard.
A tray makes it a little easier to clear it all if I need to move it.

I mixed in few brown sequined acorns and pine cones.

I like that this is a little more formal than the rustic decor I used in the entry way.  And in the evening the light from chandelier and candle light make it all sparkle.

And with the sun setting now a little earlier in the evening, it's nice to have a little bling at dinner time!

Have a great day!

Welcome Fall!

It has started to feel like Fall here in Michigan.  Yesterday was cool, overcast and breezy.  We have three huge trees in our front yard that start dropping their leaves in August and our yard is covered.

A few of the them blew in our front door as I was taking pictures and I almost left them there for effect. Then I thought you would think my house was dirty! ;)
All my faux foliage was bright orange, red and yellow when I bought them.  I decided I didn't like them so bright and went to my impressive collection of spray paints.  I used a metallic copper and lightly sprayed until all the colors were softened.

I like how the paint tied them in with my copper rooster and glass pumpkin.
This copper rooster used to be part of a weather vane that was on the roof of our cabana.  He broke off after several years but I hang on to him.

This is the view out of our guest room looking at the garden in front of the family room.

So Happy Fall, Y'all!  It is such a beautiful time of the year!

Love and Chicken Wire

Remember when I found this wonderful china cabinet for a mere $100 and then painted it?  I wanted to put chicken wire in the doors and my husband preferred the glass.

Well, I just dropped it but did not put the glass doors back in.  I don't know if you've noticed, but there's been nothing in the doors.

This morning I asked him if we had any chicken wire.  He said we didn't.  I asked how much chicken wire cost.  He looked on his phone and told me $10 for more than I would ever need.  We both looked at the china cabinet.

He didn't have any classes to teach today so in a while he got dressed and left...a little later than usual.  I was puttering around the kitchen when he came walking back in with a new roll of chicken wire.  lol

He said, "Is this what you want?"  I laughed and said, "Yes!"  And he went off to work!

I added the chicken wire to my cabinet with a staple gun.

I love it!  I love him.
Happy Thursday!
